It is also best and recommended if the window is exposed to the elements such as an exterior window. It is very strong after cementing.
Each piece of glass is individually cut. Channels of "H" came are placed around each individual piece of cut glass and then solder is dropped at every joint. Cement is then applied filling the gap in the channel between the glass on both sides.
Tiffany in the U.S.A., who is best known for his beautiful lamps. Copper foil is my favorite method to use for panels with intricate small pieces and curves. This technique involves cutting each piece of glass accurately and then grinding all edges of the individual pieces of glass. After this is done, copper foil is applied to the edge surrounding the entire glass piece. These pieces are then laid out to form the stained glass piece. A bead of lead solder is then applied to the all the seams of the copper foil on both sides filling in the gaps.
M.Deb. came to me with a request for colored bevels for a custom built in cabinet made by a locally owned and operated Smitty Built-Ins. The subtle blue and green bevels surrounded by a pale rose glass ribbon flow gracefully in this design.

I have a 20" diameter window in a bathroom that I need to "cover" for privacy. But to that I would need to hange the glass art...is there a way to hang this piece (maybe by a chain and a hook) that would allow me to put that stained glass art in front of the window??

ANSWER: The stained glass pieces available for sale all have a 1/2" ring at the center top for hanging. This piece is 19" diameter with 1/2" ring for a total size of 19-1/2" give or take 1/16". The panels can hang inside the window sill with a hook by the ring soldered on the panel. This panel size weighs approximately 3-1/2 lbs. Make sure your hook can support the weight. The picture below shows the hook inside the sill and an "S" hook was added so the panel would hang lower.

<img border="0" height="320px" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhat5IEzo__pnC6yKVq9p1IyS6ujAeVxNAyO8ZkPGWiP6NtViNpuM0kzdcFJhCXRzM1ow85fgHuUffiFZBFzJhA73BhIK06FoJ4QNI9DmyegriYCFBIgWS7jXUqsuzObvzCE9SsLoB3a7GG/s320/Hook.jpg" t$="true" width="213px" />

You can also use a jack chain attached to the wall and hang the panel at a desired height in window. It is not recomended to place in front of sliding or operating window. Because of the constant access to open and close the window, you might accidently hit and break either or both. I hope this answers your question. Thank you for your inquiry!

<img border="0" height="320px" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8L8QS45UXdhRzbvfvikhZAUXY1D7u_4Ew4-w8P_fUr2bKkS9rGzPxKoM7TGAgfPjrZFyHz2ySxavxhwzeSZtNSFl5UaF6KlqPkd4h0eX1bLL_XeTTlkOueh8EKsApRml8gMx3arLo8EE1/s320/Swan+Stained+Glass.jpg" t$="true" width="213px" />

Hi Lorenia,

Thank you so much for the wonderful job you did, on the two stained glass windows, you made and, installed for me.
The process you employed, was for me intuitional and brilliant. You took a concept that I held in my mind. And I had no idea as to how to the mind object into a sketch. You did. You were able to take my concept and then render a drawing. And you're drawing beautifully expressed my concept. You and I then picked out the different colors that would express the drawing. I had no idea that we could use many colors and shades for the window. And then you made a drawing that showed how the window would look in that way. We went through NUMBER of alternate drawings before we did on exactly the combination that I had in mind. The construction process was faster than I had anticipated. When the stained glass windows were completed they were in my mind perfect. The quality of the construction was great, great materials and exceptional execution. The installation crew was expertly trained by you. Their work was competent and the windows were installed quickly. The completion of the project was wonder. The sun shining Through the windows changes durning the day, At many times in the day the quality of the light having passed thru the windows changes and is quite extraordinary. I am Happily able to say I would recommend your work to anyone considering stained glass windows made for them. Lastly your price was most reasonable considering the other prices that were quoted to me.
He had the idea to make an iron frame for the hanging. I have been pretty busy and just had time to organize and upload web pictures. I think it looks fabulous Al!! Thank you for sharing.

Hi Lorenia,
You may remember me as I'm the fellow you met with a few months ago. Anyhow I'm working on some joint projects with a sculptor here in Lakeside and he helped me to design and build this wrought frame prototype.
I've attached it to a heavy metal base so it'd be difficult to tip over. Please let me know what you think of it and if you may be interested in putting it on your website once it's completed. I have several more ideas for your stained glass and will keep you posted as I progress.
This window was finished this December.

The window was made with a softer palette in mind. Combinations of several clear glass textures and stained glass were selected to achieve this. We decided to use CLEAR WATERGLASS as a background, IRIDESCENT WATERGLASS & IRIDESCENT GRANITE glass for the center design, AMBER WATERGLASS for borders and details in BABY BLUE STREAKY glass. The IRIDECENT glass gave us that touch of subtle color we needed to define the designs details.
Custom beveled gluechip diamonds were used in the bottom center surounded by several clear textured glass choices for depth and definition.

Light hues work beautifully with clear bevels making the design flow gracefully without overpowering it. This window slides up to open. The window was designed to run seemlessly when closed.
Price range is many times considered before begining the design of a stained glass project. There are a few things that need to be known in order to give you a rough estimate.

Is the type of design to be a "theme" with colored glass or bevels with clear textured glass?

Is it a replacement window, hanging panel or surface mounted?

If replacement, are your windows double paned or single glass?

If surface mounted, is there a sill to mount the glass panel on?

If exterior, is there an overhang?

What is the rough width" x height"?

An estimated starting price range will be given. If this price is within you budget we can start the drawing process within days.

In home consultations are available upon request for the San Diego area free of charge.

Many times a consultation is not needed if you have a good idea of what you want. Most correspondence can be done by email.

A customized line drawing will be sent to you via email and modifications requested by you via email.

If you not sure of what you want, there are a variety of color photographs and designs available from many pattern books you can look through. In this case a consultation is recommended.

You can choose from these options or we can custom design your glass panel.

Let me know what you would like to see in your window.

Give me a feel of the color palette you would like to use.

See something you like? Send me a design you like or an idea of what you would like.
