Stained Glass Arch Birds of Paradise

My client wanted to cover his two arch windows with a stained glass piece because the light coming through was too bright. He mentioned birds of paradise, jacaranda, tropical stained glass theme. He decided to go with the birds of paradise theme. A couple of drawings were presented for this project with the dimensions he gave me. He requested a few modifications in color changes and started on the stained glass windows.

THANK YOU JOE!!!!

Hi Lorenia,
Thank you so much for the wonderful job you did, on the two stained glass windows, you made and, installed for me.
The process you employed, was for me intuitional and brilliant. You took a concept that I held in my mind. And I had no idea as to how to the mind object into a sketch. You did. You were able to take my concept and then render a drawing. And you're drawing beautifully expressed my concept. You and I then picked out the different colors that would express the drawing. I had no idea that we could use many colors and shades for the window. And then you made a drawing that showed how the window would look in that way. We went through NUMBER of alternate drawings before we did on exactly the combination that I had in mind. The construction process was faster than I had anticipated. When the stained glass windows were completed they were in my mind perfect. The quality of the construction was great, great materials and exceptional execution. The installation crew was expertly trained by you. Their work was competent and the windows were installed quickly. The completion of the project was wonder. The sun shining Through the windows changes durning the day, At many times in the day the quality of the light having passed thru the windows changes and is quite extraordinary. I am Happily able to say I would recommend your work to anyone considering stained glass windows made for them. Lastly your price was most reasonable considering the other prices that were quoted to me.

Thank You,

Stained Glass Design Process

Thank you for your question Bill.
Price range is many times considered before begining the design of a stained glass project. There are a few things that need to be known in order to give you a rough estimate.
  1. Is the type of design to be a "theme" with colored glass or bevels with clear textured glass?
  2. Is it a replacement window, hanging panel or surface mounted?
  3. If replacement, are your windows double paned or single glass?
  4. If surface mounted, is there a sill to mount the glass panel on?
  5. If exterior, is there an overhang?
  6. What is the rough width" x height"?
An estimated starting price range will be given. If this price is within you budget we can start the drawing process within days.

Stained Glass California Sea Gull Skylight

Mrs. B. contacted me regarding a skylight that had been closed out in a previous remodel of her home. She resides in a now Historical area in La Jolla and wanted to re-do the skylight. She wanted to use stained glass amber rondels like the ones in antique cabinet doors she had stored away. I suggested a center medallion with a theme..............anything she would like. Living in La Jolla with that breathtaking view of the ocean and shore, she decided a California Sea Gull would be most appropriate. After a few designs, the drawing above was chosen. Reinforcing the stained glass was a challenge because we did not want to interrupt the design with the steel bars running behind the rondels. Gluechip glass was chosen for its obscurity as background to hide the halogen lamp strip lighting the skylight.

Stained Glass Bird in Tree Bathroom Window

PICTURE ABOVE IS DRAWING
This stained glass tree is one of my favorites. The drawings I provide my clients are actually scaled to the dimension of the window to be made. The same drawing is used as a pattern when putting the stained glass piece together. So the image in the drawing is going to be almost exact as the finished stained glass piece. The colors, however, show differently on paper than in actual stained glass. My client will give me a starting color pallette prefered for the project. This provides a perfect starting point for when the actual glass selection is made from glass samples once the final drawing is approved.
PICTURE ABOVE IS ACTUAL WINDOW
It is installed above the bathtub so privacy is very important for the homeowner. I love using double gluechip glass because it is so beautifully neutral and provides the best obscurity. The use of clear textured glass for backgrounds, in my opinion, makes the design more defined. The glass colors were chosen to match the granite installed in the showers and bathtub areas.

Stained Glass Butterfly Sidelight

Donna Wolf is a local Jewery Designer that wanted to have a sidelight window made for her home specifying the use of butterflies. She was an absolute pleasure to work with and a most amazing person to know.
Preliminary colored drawings above were provided to customer for sidelight window commission. Stained glass colors were proposed to client based on drawings. Donna went through several textures and colors she liked and the sidelight was made accordingly.

TESTIMONIAL:
I found Lorenia/SD Glass Art while surfing the net. After a single phone call, she arrived at my home, with samples, ideas, recommendations and a complete collaborative attitude to assist me with my idea for a custom front stained glass window for my home. She totally understood my vision and gave me numerous sample "mock ups". We worked together, using my idea and her expertise to come up the THE PERFECT window that was simply "just ME". I would work with her again in a second and have recommended her to the numerous neighbors who have complimented my gorgeous, original piece of art!

I bought a fabulous necklace created by Donna which I wear almost everywhere. My clients and friends have commented on the beauty and substance of the natural stones it is made with. Her creativity and attention to detail is evident in all of her jewelry designs. Love....love.....love my Lapis bracelet too!!!!!
