Stained Glass Arch Birds of Paradise

My client wanted to cover his two arch windows with a stained glass piece because the light coming through was too bright. He mentioned birds of paradise, jacaranda, tropical stained glass theme. He decided to go with the birds of paradise theme. A couple of drawings were presented for this project with the dimensions he gave me. He requested a few modifications in color changes and started on the stained glass windows.

Thank you so much for the wonderful job you did, on the two stained glass windows, you made and, installed for me.

The process you employed, was for me intuitional and brilliant. You took a concept that I held in my mind. And I had no idea as to how to the mind object into a sketch. You did. You were able to take my concept and then render a drawing. And you're drawing beautifully expressed my concept. You and I then picked out the different colors that would express the drawing. I had no idea that we could use many colors and shades for the window. And then you made a drawing that showed how the window would look in that way. We went through NUMBER of alternate drawings before we did on exactly the combination that I had in mind. The construction process was faster than I had anticipated. When the stained glass windows were completed they were in my mind perfect. The quality of the construction was great, great materials and exceptional execution. The installation crew was expertly trained by you. Their work was competent and the windows were installed quickly. The completion of the project was wonder. The sun shining Through the windows changes durning the day, At many times in the day the quality of the light having passed thru the windows changes and is quite extraordinary. I am Happily able to say I would recommend your work to anyone considering stained glass windows made for them. Lastly your price was most reasonable considering the other prices that were quoted to me.

Stained Glass Window Hangings

Jim and Christina bought stock stained glass hanging and found yet another way to use them. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!!

We are thrilled with your hanging GlassArt that we purchased from your studio by E-mail.

I was recently fortunate to have found a discarded door at our close-by recycle center. It was heavy, and, I knew from its weight that hidden under a poorly applied coat of white latex paint, I was likely to find an ancient jewel.

It turned out to be made of Oak, and I refinished it- leaving its history of added, and removed hardware showing through the final Spar varnish. Very nice!

So... We did it again with another door for the bathroom. Notice that the crescent moon (traditional outdoor bathroom symbol) peeks through from the outside, yet your total GlassArt is revealed the inside.

A lotta fun- and we have three more to go!

Stained Glass Poinsettias

These Stained Glass Poinsettias were made for a cabinet door. Two of these panels were made as mirror images. The glass chosen was heavily textured to ensure the contents behind the cabinet were not to be seen.

Traditional Stained Glass Window Design

So very busy these days.......lot's of new pictures to post and not enough time! This window was finished this December.

The window was made with a softer palette in mind. Combinations of several clear glass textures and stained glass were selected to achieve this. We decided to use CLEAR WATERGLASS as a background, IRIDESCENT WATERGLASS & IRIDESCENT GRANITE glass for the center design, AMBER WATERGLASS for borders and details in BABY BLUE STREAKY glass. The IRIDECENT glass gave us that touch of subtle color we needed to define the designs details.

Can You Make Your Stained Glass Hangings to Fit My Window Size or My Color Palette?

I get these two questions alot. Especially for the Stained Glass Sun Hanging Panel SDGA_307 the "Sun God" as it's been called many times.

The stained glass hangings sold on the website's SHOP NOW! tab in the STAINED GLASS HANGINGS page are made from a pattern  used over and over again. There is no time spent on designing or sizing. Just take out the pattern and go! These stained glass panel hangings are made from glass and material that is left over from other projects. All left over materials are used in the best possible manner. When a specific color palette is requested, stock may not be available. If this is the case, the glass must be purchased and the price would be $80.00 sq ft. When the hanging sells, another is made. The colors and textures depend pretty much on what is on hand and looks nice together. These panels are also made when there are no other comissions or jobs ,which take priority over stock items. So basically done on spare time only. This 19" round stained glass hanging takes about 5-1/2 hours to make from starting to cut, grind, foil, burnish, solder to patina and polished finished.

A client requested the panel below made for a 31" x 27" window using her color palette. This panel was priced differently because of a pattern that needed to be made, labor and material costs involved.

The stained glass hanging below is actually made from the 19" round pattern. There was however labor involved as well as materials needed for this panel. This panel is priced at $80.00 per sq ft with the customary 3 sq ft minimum waived because there was no sizing and designing involved.

Stained Glass Bird in Tree Bathroom Window

This stained glass tree is one of my favorites. The drawings I provide my clients are actually scaled to the dimension of the window to be made. The same drawing is used as a pattern when putting the stained glass piece together. So the image in the drawing is going to be almost exact as the finished stained glass piece. The colors, however, show differently on paper than in actual stained glass. My client will give me a starting color pallette prefered for the project. This provides a perfect starting point for when the actual glass selection is made from glass samples once the final drawing is approved.

It is installed above the bathtub so privacy is very important for the homeowner. I love using double gluechip glass because it is so beautifully neutral and provides the best obscurity. The use of clear textured glass for backgrounds, in my opinion, makes the design more defined. The glass colors were chosen to match the granite installed in the showers and bathtub areas.

Stained Glass Tree Bathroom Window

Carole Jensen (designer) had a request for a stained glass bathroom window for a client. In our meeting, the homeowners had the idea of using their logo as the design. After a few preliminary drawings and modifications this was the outcome.

Carole has a graceful whimsical design style which is embedded throughout the home emanating tranquility.This is the exterior view of the window in the day. When the lights are on inside, the stained glass window's colors take life. I had to take pictures of the stepping stone areas. They are such eye treats. The stones are mixed with turquoise and blue sea glass!

Iridescent Stained Glass Sidelight Windows

Using Iridescent Stained Glass is a great way to add a subtle hint of color to window panels and accentuate a center design or use instead of bevel clusters.

These pictures were taken at an angle and I was able to capture the many colors that this beautiful glass reflects in the light.

This homeowner asked me to replicate the design of his iron gate for his two stained glass sidelight windows. I added a clear bevel border to frame the design and four bevel rectangles to tie it all together.

Prairie Style Stained Glass for Iron Gate

I was contacted by B. Arlauskas early 2007. She wanted a prairie style stained glass panel for her iron gate. What a coincidence! The Hermans had just called me a month before with a request for a gate with stained glass.

Things went smoothly with this project because Mrs. Arlauskas had a smaller window with very little weight and the iron gate was being fabricated.

Hand Forged Wrought Iron with Stained Glass Gate

Harriet and Norm Herman contacted me in December of 2006. They had a vision of a wrought Iron Gate with stained glass. I had not seen this anywhere and thought it was a great idea. We had such difficulty finding a hand forged wrought iron craftsman that was willing to fabricate a strong custom wrought iron gate for a full stained glass window pane. The Hermans were fortunate to find the right craftsman.

My sincerest thanks to The Hermans whose patience and perseverance made all possible.

I couldn't get a good detailed picture of the whole stained glass window. I took close up pictures of the top and the bottom separately.

The picture below was taken at night with the two lights on the side illuminating it. When the lights are on inside, the window becomes fully lit.

Stained Glass Frogs

I had finished the stained glass tree for Mr. & Mrs. Hicks bathroom and was very honored to get a phone call for two more windows.

Mrs. Hicks fell in love with the whimsical frogs by Jillian Sawyer's FROG SONGS book. I added the dragonfly per Carole Jensen, their designer's request.

The raindrop glass makes a wonderful background to the vibrantly rich colors used for this window.

Stained Glass Wisteria Window

I was contacted by Mrs. Mitchell to design and fabricate a staircase window. We didn't have a clear idea of the design that would be used. After speaking to the Mitchells, the idea of wisteria vines was brought up and we went from there. The color palette was chosen to match colors the existing wallpaper in the kitchen which they both really liked and wanted to use as the primary colors.

I presented the Mitchells with the initial drawing and was delighted when they notified me they wanted to add sidelights to their front door to match the Wisteria & Camelia window. These windows were all surface mounted with bead moldings and fabricated using the copperfoil method.

I deeply regret not have taken good pictures! These windows are trully beautiful in person.

Stained Glass Victorian Style Window

These stained glass windows were made for Victorian home built for H.F.C. Furnard, a successful pharmacist, in the early 1900's. It is conveniently located in Sherman Heights, blocks from the Gaslamp Quarter and within a mile from Petco Park. This makes this Victorian guest house a prime location for San Diego tourists. Chuck is the proud Innkeeper of this charming guest house. He contacted me in February specifying a custom Victorian style window for his front door. He had been welcomed by two hummingbirds in his backyard when he moved in and wanted to incorporate it in this window. We fabricated this window using a combination of copperfoil for the center oval medallion and lead.

This was a home in need of a lot of TLC and Chuck is doing just that. I am a lucky witness of his passion to restore this beautiful historic house.
