How Can I Hang Your Stained Glass Panel?

QUESTION: I am interested in the 19" diameter round Swan Lake piece.

I have a 20" diameter window in a bathroom that I need to "cover" for privacy. But to that I would need to hange the glass art...is there a way to hang this piece (maybe by a chain and a hook) that would allow me to put that stained glass art in front of the window??

ANSWER: The stained glass pieces available for sale all have a 1/2" ring at the center top for hanging. This piece is 19" diameter with 1/2" ring for a total size of 19-1/2" give or take 1/16". The panels can hang inside the window sill with a hook by the ring soldered on the panel. This panel size weighs approximately 3-1/2 lbs. Make sure your hook can support the weight. The picture below shows the hook inside the sill and an "S" hook was added so the panel would hang lower.

You can also use a jack chain attached to the wall and hang the panel at a desired height in window. It is not recomended to place in front of sliding or operating window. Because of the constant access to open and close the window, you might accidently hit and break either or both. I hope this answers your question. Thank you for your inquiry!

Custom Stained Glass Design for Slumped Pieces

A good friend of mine had 2 slumped pieces her husband had bought for her while on a business trip to Quebec, Canada.

She had the idea of using the sailboat and fish integrated somehow in a hanging panel to cover a window in the bathroom area.

She chose a combination of dark opal glass to block the morning sunlight in her bathroom. The glob bubbles tied the slumped glass and stained glass together perfectly. The two mediums work effortlessly together.

We are thrilled with your hanging GlassArt that we purchased from your studio by E-mail.

I was recently fortunate to have found a discarded door at our close-by recycle center. It was heavy, and, I knew from its weight that hidden under a poorly applied coat of white latex paint, I was likely to find an ancient jewel.

It turned out to be made of Oak, and I refinished it- leaving its history of added, and removed hardware showing through the final Spar varnish. Very nice!

So... We did it again with another door for the bathroom. Notice that the crescent moon (traditional outdoor bathroom symbol) peeks through from the outside, yet your total GlassArt is revealed the inside.

A lotta fun- and we have three more to go!

Iron Stand Made for Stained Glass Hanging

Al bought a stained glass hanging from me around November 2009. He had the idea to make an iron frame for the hanging. I have been pretty busy and just had time to organize and upload web pictures. I think it looks fabulous Al!! Thank you for sharing.

You may remember me as I'm the fellow you met with a few months ago. Anyhow I'm working on some joint projects with a sculptor here in Lakeside and he helped me to design and build this wrought frame prototype.

As I may have mentioned to you before I have put a light behind the stained glass so that it could be lit at night also. I've attached it to a heavy metal base so it'd be difficult to tip over. Please let me know what you think of it and if you may be interested in putting it on your website once it's completed. I have several more ideas for your stained glass and will keep you posted as I progress.

Stained Glass Hanging Window Panels

My wife, Lili, and and I just love your work. Here are pictures of the three pieces we've purchased so far. The first one we framed and put on our front balcony. One went to our bay window in our bedroom. The 'Lighthouse" is going to be framed and placed outside above our front porch. We are looking forward to you bringing the oval "sailboat", so I can put it in my office. The lighthouse is a little big for the window, as you can see.

We should get you a little storefront here in downtown OB. This is just marvelous work.

Can You Make Your Stained Glass Hangings to Fit My Window Size or My Color Palette?

I get these two questions alot. Especially for the Stained Glass Sun Hanging Panel SDGA_307 the "Sun God" as it's been called many times.

The stained glass hangings sold on the website's SHOP NOW! tab in the STAINED GLASS HANGINGS page are made from a pattern  used over and over again. There is no time spent on designing or sizing. Just take out the pattern and go! These stained glass panel hangings are made from glass and material that is left over from other projects. All left over materials are used in the best possible manner. When a specific color palette is requested, stock may not be available. If this is the case, the glass must be purchased and the price would be $80.00 sq ft. When the hanging sells, another is made. The colors and textures depend pretty much on what is on hand and looks nice together. These panels are also made when there are no other comissions or jobs ,which take priority over stock items. So basically done on spare time only. This 19" round stained glass hanging takes about 5-1/2 hours to make from starting to cut, grind, foil, burnish, solder to patina and polished finished.

A client requested the panel below made for a 31" x 27" window using her color palette. This panel was priced differently because of a pattern that needed to be made, labor and material costs involved.

The stained glass hanging below is actually made from the 19" round pattern. There was however labor involved as well as materials needed for this panel. This panel is priced at $80.00 per sq ft with the customary 3 sq ft minimum waived because there was no sizing and designing involved.

My Stained Glass Shipment Was Received Damaged. What Should I Do?

All of our pieces are carefully packed using 1" foam to sandwich each stained glass piece.

In the unfortunate event a shipment is received damaged, please contact us immediately by phone: 619.250.6690, email: info@sdglassart.com, or fax: 866.617.8898.

A claim must be filed with the shipping carrier by us (the shipper) within 1~2 days of the delivery. It is very difficult to have the claim approved if the report is not done immediately. We must then authorize the return shipment before it is made. Many times the shipping company asks to see the damaged item and packing before any returns are made.

Once the stained glass piece is recieved, a replacement will be shipped. Many times the customer loves the colors so much that repair is requested. If repair is requested, please allow 1~2 weeks additional for repairs and shipping to be made.

Using Stained Glass in Non-Lit Areas

Hello Annie,
I understand you want to permanently affix stained glass to your medicine cabinet doors that are painted the color of your wall. The glass weight is approximately around 2-1/2 ~ 3 lbs per square ft copper foiled with lead came. I am concerned about the installation of a stained glass piece over an existing panel. The best way is to frame the stained glass piece and use the frame as a door. If you are mounting stained glass over an existing door, it is best if it sits on a molding and fits snuggly all around. Then run a bead of clear silicon all around the stained glass to seal it in place. Remember this is a swinging door and the glass could fall and be a safety issue if there are no stops to hold it in place. There must be something to secure it from falling out. These suncatcher are pre-made and come in the sizes specified online. You might want to have the panel custom made to fit a frame.Stained glass shows best with a lit back. Preferably natural sunlight like the picture above.This stained glass hanging is sold on the website's SHOP NOW! tab in the STAINED GLASS HANGINGS page.The colors will be muted if placed over a painted surface and clear textures will show the color of your wall or whatever is behind it.The picture above is hanging on a butterscotch color painted wall.The picture above is laying on white paper.

Aguila Azteca Locomotive Stained Glass Panel

My grandfather's neurologist has several trains in his office. When I asked him if he collected trains, he smiled nostalgically and told us he rode trains frequently years ago. There was one train in particular he rode at night. The "Aguila Azteca" Nacionales de Mexico which ran Mexico City, Monterrey and Nuevo Laredo.

My grandfather & grandmother are doing excellent at 83 due to the care and devotion of their wonderful doctors. We have much to thank you for!

Stained Glass Window Hanging Panel

Mr and Mrs Roth's dining room window overlooks their neighbors roof and back yard. They entertain their family and friends and use this space often. Since this is a casement window with two operating panes, they requested a center hanging panel that would serve to block the view as well as create a focal point in the dining area. The bright red, blue and green colors lend this stained glass panel a feel of mexican Talavera tile design.
